About Monero (XMR)

Market Cap Rank

#49

Monero (XMR) is a decentralised cryptocurrency which uses anonymity and fungibility by utilising a public distributed ledger with privacy-enhancing technologies that mask transactions. Addresses, transaction amounts, address balances, or transaction histories cannot be read by observers.

The system was developed as open source and is based on the CryptoNote idea, which Nicolas van Saberhagen first introduced in a white paper in 2013. This idea was adopted by the cryptography community to create Monero, which launched its mainnet in 2014.

What is Monero (XMR)?

A cryptocurrency with a focus on anonymity called Monero (XMR) was introduced in 2014. It is built and run on the concept. Blockchains are open ledgers of participant activity that display all network transactions and constitute the fundamental technology of digital currency.

The blockchain for Monero is specifically set up to be secret. By hiding the addresses that participants use, it makes transactional information, such as the senders' and recipients' identities and the total value of each transaction, anonymous.

The mining of Monero is based on an egalitarian concept in addition to anonymity. This is the idea that everyone is created equal and should have access to the same possibilities. When they first released Monero, its creators did not hold any of the currency's assets in reserve, but they did rely on community support and contributions to advance the virtual currency.

Who Created Monero (XMR)?

The system was developed as open source and is based on the CryptoNote idea, which Nicolas van Saberhagen first introduced in a white paper in 2013. To hide transaction data, Monero employs ring signatures, zero-knowledge proofs, stealth addresses, and techniques that mask IP addresses.

How does Monero (XMR) Work?

Monero relies on two key ideas: stealth addresses and ring signatures—to offer privacy and anonymity.

With the help of stealth addresses, a sender is able to create a unique public address for the recipient for each and every transaction. Similar to Bitcoin, the recipient can still receive all of their payments at a single public address. A private view key and a private spend key will be generated for each Monero user. While the private spend key functions similarly to a Bitcoin private key in that it is used to authorise payments, the private view key will allow them to examine all transactions connected to their account.

Ring signatures are a general cryptographic concept that describe a digital signature that can be signed by any individual inside a particular group of persons who have private keys. Your Monero wallet creates a ring out of other users' keys it downloads from the blockchain each time you perform an XMR transaction. The transaction is anonymous since it is impossible for anyone watching to determine whose key was used to sign. Ring Confidential Transactions (RingCT), which also hide the value of transactions, were introduced by Monero in January 2017.

Monero Features

Security:

Because Monero is decentralised, a network of users securely manages the cryptocurrency. Transactions are only recorded on the blockchain after receiving distributed consensus confirmation.

Private:

Monero uses techniques like ring signatures, ring confidential transactions, and stealth addresses to hide the source, quantity, and destination of transactions.

Exchangeable:

Monero coins are linked to previous transactions, merchants and exchanges cannot put them on a blacklist.

Untraceable:

Since the sender and recipient addresses are hidden, it is impossible to connect a transaction on the Monero blockchain to a specific user.
