According to remarks attributed to Ali Kooli, Tunisia\u2019s economy minister, the North African state will soon move to decriminalize the buying of bitcoin. This comes after the recently reported arrest of a 17-year-old crypto user. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/bitcoinexchangeguide.com\/tunisias-economy-minister-says-hes-going-to-decriminalize-buying-bitcoin\/\">reports<\/a>, Minister Kooli says he wants to decriminalize the purchase of bitcoin in order to avoid having another Tunisian youth jailed. This by way of running afoul of the country\u2019s unclear cryptocurrency regulation. He said in a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ahmdnet2\/status\/1403748951610757120?s=20\">TV interview<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>I will change the law, we cannot put a Tunisian young man in prison for buying bitcoin.<\/p>\n<p>The government official\u2019s remarks follow recent Tunisian reports of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tunisie.fr\/les-autorites-tunisiennes-confondent-la-cryptomonnaie-et-blanchiment-argent\/\">arrest<\/a> of a 17-year-old crypto user by law enforcement. After the teenager\u2019s reported arrest on suspicion of money laundering, in light of the country\u2019s lack of clear crypto laws, some members of Tunisia\u2019s blockchain community slammed the government\u2019s heavy-handed approach. In addition, on social media crypto enthusiasts and sympathizers launched a movement that denounced the crypto user\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p><!-- growjs zone placement 31 -->    <!-- end of growjs zone placement --> <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, with these comments, Minister Kooli becomes the latest Tunisian official to embrace crypto.
