{"id":4696,"date":"2020-09-24T12:06:28","date_gmt":"2020-09-24T12:06:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/?p=439534"},"modified":"2020-09-24T12:06:28","modified_gmt":"2020-09-24T12:06:28","slug":"microstrategy-ceo-assures-bitcoin-holders-he-will-not-dump-at-the-first-opportunity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.buyucoin.com\/crypto-labs\/microstrategy-ceo-assures-bitcoin-holders-he-will-not-dump-at-the-first-opportunity\/","title":{"rendered":"MicroStrategy CEO Assures Bitcoin Holders He Will Not Dump At The First Opportunity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MicroStrategy CEO Michael Saylor has directly addressed concerns that he will dump Bitcoin at the first opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michael_saylor\/status\/1308759164219543552\">tweet<\/a> sent yesterday, Saylor sought to reassure the Bitcoin community by saying he is in it for the long term.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">There is no truth to the stories currently circulating that speculate &quot;he would not hesitate to dump MicroStrategy\u2019s 38,250 Bitcoin (BTC) at a moment\u2019s notice if an alternative asset\u2019s yields were to jump.&quot; This is creative journalism.<\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Michael Saylor (@michael_saylor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/michael_saylor\/status\/1308759164219543552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 23, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Saylor was reacting to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-09-22\/ceo-says-bitcoin-is-safer-after-moving-firm-s-cash-to-crypto\">Bloomberg article<\/a>, that other publications have also quoted, in which it&#8217;s alleged he would dump his BTC holdings if bond yields jumped.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;Even so, Saylor said he\u2019s not a crypto diehard. If bond yields jump, for instance, he said he won\u2019t hesitate to dump the cryptocurrency, though he has no immediate plans to sell.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The article also gave a number of extracts which portray a level of indifference towards this action.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;We can liquidate it any day of the week, any hour of the day.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;If I needed to liquidate $200 million of Bitcoin, I believe I could do it on a Saturday. If I took a haircut, I believe it would be 2%.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In response, Saylor lashed out at those reporting the story, claiming they were intentionally misleading the public.<\/p>\n<h2>MicroStrategy Blazes Trail as The First Public Listed Company to Hold Bitcoin<\/h2>\n<p>Last month, Saylor hit the headlines by announcing his firm, MicroStrategy, had revised its treasury policy to include Bitcoin purchases.<\/p>\n<p>To date, using company cash reserves, MicroStrategy has acquired 38,250 Bitcoin at an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/2020\/09\/16\/grayscale-ceo-quips-about-bitcoin-buying-race-with-microstrategy\/\">aggregate purchase price of $425 million.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsbtc.com\/2020\/09\/24\/microstrategy-ceo-company-investors-pleased-with-decision-to-buy-bitcoin\/\">MicroStrategy<\/a> became the first public listed company to adopt such a policy. Many believe this will lead to a cascade of other firms following suit.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/100trillionUSD\/status\/1306119800255639559\">@100trillionUSD<\/a> pointed out that a government ban on Bitcoin is even more unlikely following this.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Most people think a government ban is the biggest risk to bitcoin. But with MicroStrategy now having a third of it&#39;s market cap in bitcoin, do you really think governments will tank stock markets? Risk of ban will get smaller and smaller when more listed companies follow MSTR. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xEg0EDOgYA\">pic.twitter.com\/xEg0EDOgYA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; PlanB (@100trillionUSD) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/100trillionUSD\/status\/1306119800255639559?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">September 16, 2020<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>All the same, this is a strategy that continues to divide opinion, especially during a time when Bitcoin and the wider crypto markets are deep in the red. However, Saylor explained his actions by saying cash is no longer king.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with Anthony Pompliano on why he turned to Bitcoin, Saylor spoke about the threat of inflation, to which holding cash during these times makes little sense.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>&#8220;First I have a mega, mega, mega problem, and the problem is I have a lot of cash and I&#8217;m watching it melt away&#8230; [On investors] they&#8217;re smarter than I am, I&#8217;m not joking, I&#8217;m being serious, they are smarter than I am. But the events of the past few months have turned everything on its head.
