The U.K. advertising watchdog has banned several cryptocurrency ads, including those by Papa John\u2019s Pizza, Coinbase, Kraken, Etoro, and Luno. The authority says the ads are \u201cmisleading\u201d and \u201cirresponsibly taking advantage of consumers\u2019 inexperience.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

7 Crypto Ads Banned by UK Authority<\/h2>\n

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) banned seven cryptocurrency ads Wednesday. The ads are for Papa John\u2019s Pizza, Coinbase, Kraken, Etoro, Luno, Coinburp, and Exmo.<\/p>\n

After evaluation, the U.K. advertising watchdog says that the ads are \u201cmisleading\u201d and \u201cirresponsibly taking advantage of consumers\u2019 inexperience and for failing to illustrate the risk of the investment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Besides giving specific instructions to each company about what they must do to comply with its advertising standards in the future, the ASA ordered in all cases:<\/p>\n

The ads must not appear again in the form complained about.<\/p>\n

The Papa John\u2019s Pizza ad was a promotion on its website and Twitter. The famous pizza chain was giving away bitcoin<\/a> with purchases in May. The company advertised \u201cfree bitcoin worth \u00a310.\u201d With a purchase of \u00a330 or more, customers would save \u00a315 and get \u00a310 worth of bitcoin from crypto exchange Luno.<\/p>\n

Coinbase\u2019s advertisement was a paid-for Facebook ad. It included text that reads: \u201c\u00a35 in bitcoin in 2010 would be worth over \u00a3100,000 in January 2021. Don\u2019t miss out on the next decade \u2013 get started on Coinbase today.\u201d<\/p>\n

Luno\u2019s ad was an in-app ad seen within the Daily Mail Online app. It included text which states: \u201cInvest in crypto for as little as \u00a31.\u201d This was not the first time the ASA had a problem with ads by Luno. The authority banned<\/a> the exchange\u2019s \u201cTime to Buy\u201d bitcoin ads on London buses and the underground in May.<\/p>\n

Payward\u2019s ad was a digital poster for its crypto exchange, Kraken, seen at London Bridge station. It included text which states: \u201cBuy 50+ crypto in minutes,\u201d \u201cGet started with as little as \u00a310,\u201d and \u201cBuild digital wealth and buy crypto on the go.\u201d<\/p>\n

Etoro\u2019s ad was a paid-for display ad on the Yahoo Finance website. It included text which states: \u201cInvest in the world\u2019s top cryptos with one click.\u201d<\/p>\n

Exmo\u2019s ad was a video on the Wingin\u2019 It! Paul Lucas Youtube channel. The video\u2019s description had text that states: \u201cDownload Exmo now and save loads on trading commissions! Exmo has been given temporary registration to carry out crypto-asset activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

The seventh ad banned Wednesday was a Twitter page for crypto trading platform Coinburp, which included a bio section which states: \u201cRegister in minutes, deposit instantly, then make super-easy and secure crypto trades.\u201d<\/p>\n

In November, the ASA launched<\/a> an investigation into advertisements for the cryptocurrency floki inu (FLOKI). The ads, titled \u201cMissed Doge? Get Floki,\u201d appeared on London buses and the underground.<\/p>\n
