On the 4th of November<\/strong>, one of Times Square\u2019s Countdown screens lit up with artworks depicting five iconic sports heroes, Alexander Ovechkin and Muhammad Ali among them. The \u2018LeGENds\u2019 NFT drop was held by Blockasset: a Solana-based sports platform aimed at providing better engagement models for athletes and their fans by pushing the limits of NFTs and fan tokens.<\/p>\n

Each NFT was masterfully drawn by a world-famous artist Dosbrak, and dedicated to one of the 5 sports icons: Alexander Ovechkin (hockey), Wayne Rooney (soccer), Muhammad Ali (boxing), Mike Bisping (UFC), and Jonah Lomu (rugby). In under nine minutes, all of the items within the 10,000 generative-art collection were sold out, grossing $5 million in sales.<\/p>\n

Thus, the drop set a new sales record for Solana, which is not Blockasset\u2019s first: earlier this year, Italian soccer captain Giorgio Chiellini launched his \u201cGladiator\u201d NFT collection in partnership with the platform, successfully breaking the ecosystem\u2019s record at that time.<\/p>\n
