Sotheby\u2019s, the British-founded American luxury auction house, has announced the company will be selling Banksy works for real-time bids in ethereum at \u201cThe Now Evening Auction\u201d on November 18. While the upcoming auction will have pieces from highly acclaimed artists such as Mark Bradford and Yoshitomo Nara, Banksy\u2019s \u201cLove in the Air\u201d and \u201cTrolley Hunters\u201d will be sold for ether \u201cfor the first time at auction.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

2 Banksy Paintings to be Sold at Auction in Ethereum via Sotheby\u2019s Fine Auction House<\/h2>\n

In 2021, the fine auction house Sotheby\u2019s has been in the thick of cryptocurrency payments and non-fungible token (NFT) collectibles. While at first getting into NFTs<\/a>, the leading auction house decided to accept digital currency payments<\/a> via Coinbase this past May. In October, Sotheby\u2019s launched the firm\u2019s Metaverse Marketplace and Paris Hilton listed a few NFTs<\/a> on the newly launched market.<\/p>\n

On November 11, Sotheby\u2019s announced<\/a> the \u201cThe Now Evening Auction<\/a>\u201d will feature real-time auction bids in ethereum (ETH<\/a>). The auction will take place on November 18 and will feature two Banksy artworks that will be sold for the crypto asset. \u201c[Ether] Banksy Bid,\u201d Sotheby\u2019s wrote. \u201cFor the first time at auction, Sotheby\u2019s will be bringing down the hammer in ETH<\/a> on two iconic Banksy paintings in The Now sale.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The two Banksy paintings will be the infamous \u201cLove in the Air\u201d piece and the artist\u2019s \u201cTrolley Hunters\u201d painting as well. \u201cLove in the Air\u201d is estimated to be worth around $4 to $6 million and \u201cTrolley Hunters\u201d could fetch anywhere between $5 to $7 million at auction. \u201cYou can\u2019t miss Auctioneer Oliver Barker fielding bids in ETH<\/a> for Banksy\u2019s iconic paintings \u2018Trolley Hunters\u2019 and \u2018Love is in the Air,\u2019\u201d Sotheby\u2019s added<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sotheby\u2019s is not the only fine auction house in the world that has entered the galaxy of blockchain technology and cryptocurrency solutions. The luxury auction house Christie\u2019s has been into blockchain, NFTs, and cryptos<\/a> this year as well. Moreover, Sotheby\u2019s is not the first luxury auction house to sell Banksy artwork for digital currencies. The well-known Phillips Auction House held an auction<\/a> for Banksy\u2019s \u201cLaugh Now Panel\u201d (worth $2.8 to $4.1 million) in May and would settle in cryptocurrency payments.<\/p>\n
