New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams says that he will take his first three paychecks in bitcoin. He has also promised to make NYC the center of crypto. \u201cNYC it\u2019s going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing innovative industries,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Eric Adams\u2019 Bitcoin and Crypto Promises<\/h2>\n

New York City Mayor-elect Eric Adams said he wants to turn NYC into a crypto-friendly city and will also take his first three paychecks in bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Replying to a tweet made by Miami Mayor Francis Saurez that he will take 100% of his next paycheck<\/a> in bitcoin, Adams wrote: \u201cIn New York, we always go big, so I\u2019m going to take my first three paychecks in bitcoin when I become mayor.\u201d He added: \u201cNYC it\u2019s going to be the center of the cryptocurrency industry and other fast-growing innovative industries.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Many people on Twitter see Adams\u2019 statement as very bullish. At the time of writing, his tweet has been liked 14.1K times and retweeted 2,906 times. Many simply tweeted \u201cbullish\u201d in response. Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz wrote, \u201cI love NY.\u201d<\/p>\n

Angel investor Balaji Srinivasan tweeted:<\/p>\n

Impressive. With a greenlight from the mayor, we might allow any city employee to take some of their salary in BTC<\/a>. And repeal the Bitlicense to make NYC more competitive on web3.<\/p>\n

Adams has also waged a \u201cfriendly competition\u201d with Mayor Suarez, who is actively trying to turn Miami into a bitcoin hub<\/a> of the U.S. and the world. Suarez has also been re-elected as the mayor of Miami.<\/p>\n

In an interview with Bloomberg Wednesday, the NYC mayor-elect explained that Suarez \u201chas a Miamicoin that is doing very well.\u201d He added: \u201cWe\u2019re going to look in the direction to carry that out.\u201d Adams further promised to \u201clook at what\u2019s preventing the growth of bitcoin and cryptocurrency in our city.\u201d<\/p>\n

In June, Adams made a promise<\/a> to his supporters: \u201cIn one year, one year, you\u2019re going to see a different city \u2026 We\u2019re going to bring businesses here. We\u2019re going to become the center of life science, the center of cybersecurity, the center of self-driving cars, drones, the center of bitcoins. We are going to be the center of all technology.\u201d<\/p>\n
