According to reports, tech billionaire Peter Thiel \u2014 the co-founder of Paypal and Palantir \u2014 spoke about bitcoin at an event hosted in Miami. At the time, bitcoin had just surpassed its all-time price high and Thiel said \u201cyou\u2019re supposed to just buy bitcoin\u201d and added, \u201cI feel like I\u2019ve been underinvested in it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peter Thiel Postulates Meeting Satoshi Nakamoto on a Beach in Anguilla<\/h2>\n

The tech investor Peter Thiel is a fan of bitcoin (BTC<\/a>) and has explained this on a few occasions<\/a> in the past. In mid-May, Palantir Technologies, the American big data software firm, revealed<\/a> that the company would accept bitcoin for services and was also considering keeping the crypto asset on its balance sheet.<\/p>\n

Bloomberg reported<\/a> that the billionaire venture capitalist said bitcoin is an \u201calready known\u201d secret, speaking at a conference in Miami. In addition to this statement, Thiel reportedly said that he felt \u201cunderinvested\u201d in bitcoin.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, Thiel also discussed an early encounter with the founders of E-Gold Ltd., the defunct digital gold company. Thiel talked about a theory he has that he may have met Satoshi Nakamoto<\/a>, the creator of Bitcoin<\/a>, the day he met with the E-Gold team.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy sort of theory on Satoshi\u2019s identity was that Satoshi was on that beach in Anguilla,\u201d Thiel is quoted as saying<\/a>. \u201cI met them on the beach in Anguilla in February of 2000. We were beginning the revolution against the central banks on the beach in Anguilla. We were going to make Paypal interoperable with E-Gold and blow up all the central banks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thiel said there were around 200 people at that initial meeting. \u201cBitcoin was the answer to E-Gold, and Satoshi learned that you had to be anonymous and you had to not have a company,\u201d Thiel said. \u201cEven a company, even a corporate form was too governmentally linked,\u201d the tech billionaire said.<\/p>\n

The Information published<\/a> another set of statements from Thiel that stemmed from a separate event on Monday. The price rise of bitcoin, Theil said, was a clear indicator that the current political system today is fractured.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know that you should put all your money into bitcoin at $60,000 a bitcoin right now,\u201d Thiel said. \u201cBut surely the fact that it is at $60,000 is an extremely hopeful sign. It\u2019s the canary in the coal mine. It\u2019s the most honest market we have in the country, and it\u2019s telling us that this decrepit\u2026 regime is just about to blow up,\u201d Thiel added.<\/p>\n

Thiel has made a few interesting statements about bitcoin in recent times and has alluded<\/a> to China using bitcoin as a financial weapon against the United States. In 2018, Thiel said<\/a> that he was \u201clong bitcoin\u201d and that he believed institutional investors would eventually jump into the crypto economy.<\/p>\n

The Palantir co-founder has also said that bitcoin was a \u201cdeeply contrarian<\/a>\u201d investment. When speaking about Satoshi Nakamoto, Thiel suggested that if people knew who the inventor of Bitcoin was, \u201cthe government would arrest him.\u201d<\/p>\n
