Shark Tank star Kevin O\u2019Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, expects a \u201ctrillion dollars\u201d more to flow into bitcoin in the next couple of years. He also sees cryptocurrencies becoming an institutional asset class. \u201cWe don\u2019t know when but it is definitely going to come. It\u2019s not going away,\u201d he said.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Kevin O\u2019Leary Sees Trillion-Dollar Opportunity in Bitcoin<\/h2>\n

Kevin O\u2019Leary talked about bitcoin and cryptocurrency in an interview on CNBC\u2019s Capital Connection, published Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m bullish on crypto,\u201d O\u2019Leary began, adding that he is also bullish on decentralized finance (defi). Citing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) pushing<\/a> back against Coinbase\u2019s Lend product, he said: \u201cThat\u2019s a slowdown in what is really emerging as a very interesting space.\u201d Mr. Wonderful emphasized:<\/p>\n

We want the regulator to actually make some decisions about crypto, because none of us that are in financial services want to actually be cowboys about this. I don\u2019t want to get involved in crypto if the regulator says it\u2019s not okay.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t afford to be off-side. I can\u2019t afford to be non-compliant,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n

Referring to bitcoin in particular, the Shark Tank star said: \u201cIf the regulator finally allowed financial services companies to call it an asset, put it into an ETF [exchange-traded fund] in the United States, like they have in Canada and other countries, I\u2019d figure there\u2019d be another trillion dollars worth of buying into bitcoin. And we don\u2019t have that yet, but that\u2019s the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Wonderful elaborated:<\/p>\n

I think at the end of the day, over the next couple of years, that will happen. That\u2019s why there\u2019s so much interest.<\/p>\n

At the current BTC<\/a> price, the bitcoin market capitalization is $850.20 billion, based on data from Bitcoin.com Markets<\/a>.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Leary added that all institutional investors want to know \u201cwhen and how\u201d the regulators will get on side of crypto and when they will consider cryptocurrencies an \u201cinstitutional asset class.\u201d He noted: \u201cWe don\u2019t know when, but it is definitely going to come. It\u2019s not going away.\u201d<\/p>\n
