The host of CNBC\u2019s \u201cMad Money\u201d show, Jim Cramer, has recommended putting up to 5% of portfolios in cryptocurrency. Stating that he owns ethereum directly, Cramer affirmed that he is a believer in crypto.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jim Cramer\u2019s Crypto Allocation Advice<\/h2>\n

Mad Money host Jim Cramer shared his view on cryptocurrency investing Wednesday during his show\u2019s \u201clighting round,\u201d where he answered investment questions at rapid speed.<\/p>\n

A former hedge fund manager, Cramer co-founded Thestreet.com, a financial news and literacy website.<\/p>\n

He was asked whether long-term individual investors should have some portfolio allocations in cryptocurrency. He was also asked if the Nasdaq-listed cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) was a good way to gain cryptocurrency exposure.<\/p>\n

The Mad Money host opined: \u201cI think Coinbase is inexpensive. I don\u2019t really care for management because I think they let out a lot of stock when they started. I was against that. They should\u2019ve been buyers, not sellers.\u201d He continued: \u201cI think the listing went very, very poorly. I think the company is the \u2026 natural repository of crypto.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for whether investors should have cryptocurrency in their portfolios, he said, \u201cI own ethereum directly,\u201d adding:<\/p>\n

I think you should have up to 5% of your portfolio in crypto. I am a believer in crypto.<\/p>\n

Cramer started investing in cryptocurrency late last year when he was seeking a way to hedge against inflation<\/a>. In December, he admitted that he had bought bitcoin<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In March this year, he said gold let him down and he was putting 5%<\/a> of his portfolio in bitcoin. However, he said in June that he sold<\/a> all his BTC<\/a> and subsequently bought<\/a> ethereum, emphasizing that ETH<\/a> was more of a currency than BTC<\/a>.<\/p>\n
